Description
Back-up rings are the most common anti-extrusion devices employed in dynamic and static sealing, designed to prevent the migration of sealing material into the extrusion gap under the system pressure. For single acting applications – 1 Back-up Ring is sufficient, however for double acting applications – 2 Back-up Rings are necessary in order to prevent extrusion on both sides. There are 3 basic standard shapes for Backup rings: Solid Backup Rings Spiral Wound Backup Rings Scarf Cut Backup Rings.Seal center offers a wide range of back-up ring geometries and materials to suit every seal type and application. They are open or closed shapes for snap assembly made of a broad range of compounds which are highly resistant to thermal or mechanical stress. Seal center back-up rings help reduce costly downtime and ensure long-term functional reliability. The two most common back up ring materials are PTFE and Nitrile.
Back-up Rings are demanded in applications where: • O Rings of low endurance are installed
• Unfavourable mechanical circumstances are inherent
• Dynamic applications over 100bar
• Static applications around 950bar
• Hydraulic cylinders
• High-pressure hydraulic systems
• High-pressure valves
