A wiper seal is an axial seal that creates a seal while allowing a reciprocating shaft to pass through the seals inner bore. The role of the wiper seal is to prevent the ingress of dust and dirt or other foreign bodies, therefore extending the working life of the seal it is protecting. All other functions, such as providing a secondary seal for the rod, are subordinate to this prime. Wiper seals are typically used on hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, as well as telescopic suspension forks for motorcycles and bicycles. Temperature range of wiper seals is usually between -40° C and +120 ° C and max speed is at 4m/s.
Relative to its importance, the wiper seal is the most underrated seal in the hydraulic cylinder. The surrounding environment and service conditions must be taken into special consideration while choosing the wiper seal design. Various seal profiles of wipers include both single and double lip seals are available. The housing is kept open or closed depending upon both seal profiles and design specification. Seal center has developed special seal design to operate in the harshest of environment. Special care should be taken while installing the wipers.
Seal center offers a wide range of wiper seal profiles in metal, PUR, NBR, FKM and filled PTFE materials. Specially engineered solutions can be designed in order to meet the specific performance criterion of unique applications.
